📘 Lesson Summary

Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition where the body temperature rises above 40°C and can no longer regulate itself. It requires immediate emergency treatment to prevent organ damage or death.

🧠 What is Heat Stroke?

Heat stroke occurs when the body’s cooling system fails and it can no longer control its temperature. Sweating may stop, causing the body to overheat rapidly.

It can develop from untreated heat exhaustion and must always be treated as an emergency.

🔍 Recognition

  • Very high temperature (40°C or above)
  • Hot, flushed, dry skin (no sweating)
  • Severe or throbbing headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid pulse and breathing
  • Confusion or agitation
  • Lack of coordination
  • Seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

🩺 Treatment

  • Call 999/112 immediately
  • Move to a cool area and remove excess clothing
  • Sit or lay them down
  • Cool the body as quickly as possible using:
    • Cold water (shower, hose, or immersion if available)
    • Wet sheets or towels
    • Cold packs on the neck, armpits, and groin
  • Monitor and record vital signs

🚨 If Unresponsive

  • Open airway and check breathing
  • Place in the recovery position if breathing
  • Be prepared to start CPR if needed

⚠️ Important

Heat stroke can cause severe organ damage and death if not treated quickly. Immediate cooling and emergency medical help are essential.

💡 Key Takeaway

Heat stroke is a medical emergency.

👉 Call for help immediately and cool the body rapidly.
