Minor Head Injuries

Head injuries are very common in children as they are accident prone and rarely result in permanent brain damage.
Treatment
- Sit the child down and assess the bump
- Calm and reassure the child
- Apply a cold compress for no longer than 20 minutes, this will help reduce external swelling and pain. Do not apply ice directly to skin.
- The child does not need to stay awake if they are tired. Drowsiness can occur after a blow to the head you should be able to wake the child up.
- Monitor the child closely for 24 hours to ensure their condition does not deteriorate
