Foreign Objects, Poisoning, Bites & Stings

Animal and Human Bites
Bites from teeth can cause puncture wounds in the skin. Medical attention maybe needed if the bite is severe or there are signs of infection.
Treatment
- Calm and reassure the child
- Wash the wound with soap and warm water
- Gently squeeze the wound to encourage it to bleed – this can help reduce the chance of infection
- Press a dry, sterile, low adhesive dressing firmly on the wound to stop the bleeding if it is heavy
- After cleaning the wound, gently pat it dry and cover with a dressing
- If the child has not had a tetanus jab or the wound is dirty, seek medical help
