Creating calm, confident responses to challenging behaviour.

Young children communicate through actions long before they have the words to express big feelings. This course supports Early Years professionals to recognise early signs of dysregulation, respond with empathy, and apply safe de-escalation strategies that protect wellbeing for children and staff.

You’ll learn when physical intervention may be necessary for safety, what safe guiding looks like in practice, and how to record, reflect and restore connection after an incident — without shame, blame or fear.

This course is aligned with UK and Scottish Early Years frameworks and focuses on calm, connection-based behaviour support. By the end, you’ll feel more confident supporting children through challenging moments while maintaining safety, dignity and respect.
