Log-Roll Technique

This technique should be used to turn a casualty with a spinal injury. A rescuer should be at the top, supporting the casualty’s head and neck. The casualty’s limbs may need to be straightened gently. Three people will be along one side to pull the casualty towards them and on the other side, another one to two people will help roll the casualty away from them. The person at the legs will place their hands on the furthest leg. The middle helpers can support the leg and hip. Work as a team with good communication to keep the casualty’s head, trunk and legs as straight as possible. The upper leg should be supported in a raised position to help keep the spine straight.
