Effective Room Leadership in Early Years
Leading an Early Years room involves much more than organising routines and completing tasks. It means creating clarity, supporting other practitioners, maintaining standards and helping the whole team work effectively around the needs of children.
This course explores the everyday leadership skills needed by room leaders, senior practitioners, deputies and those preparing to take on greater responsibility.
Practical learning covering the main areas of day-to-day room leadership.
Designed to support approximately three hours of professional development.
Complete a 15-question assessment at the end of the course.
Suitable for Early Years practitioners working across the UK.
Leadership happens throughout the day
A room leader may need to organise staff deployment, respond when the plan changes, support a less experienced practitioner, speak with parents, address inconsistent practice and keep oversight of children’s experiences — sometimes within the same hour.
This course focuses on those real situations rather than leadership theory alone.
You will explore how to lead with greater clarity and consistency while still giving practitioners appropriate responsibility, support and opportunities to develop.
By the end of the course, you should be able to…

How to get the most from the course
Start with the way you already lead
You do not need to wait until you have a management title to influence the culture of a room. Leadership is visible in how you communicate, respond to pressure, support colleagues and model the standards you expect from others.
As you move through the course, keep one question in mind: what does my team learn from the way I lead?
